Some of them are not yet available, but the 2019 Bolgheri Superiore wines released in January 2022 have really won our hearts. Production volumes are back to more than acceptable levels following the reductions of the past two years. This is the case for the outstanding Sassicaia, which once again excels in every way, but also for all the samples tasted. 2019 was characterised by a summer that was certainly hot, but lacked water stress, thanks to rain in winter and also in May; this helped to produce and ripen healthy grapes. 2019 wines from the Castagneto Carducci appellation are generous and fruity in character. Mature aromas and tannins are the common thread running through the vintage, which can be defined as a sunny year. The exception in our tasting was Guado al Melo - we sampled the 2018 vintage - fresher, but still fascinating, particularly for its elegance. The libertarian nature of the production guidelines in terms of varietal composition does not help to establish a common interpretation, but we realise local differences also apply and manage to distinguish production styles and philosophies. Experimentation and creativity are part of the DNA of Bolgheri wines; not accepting this variation would be a failure to understand the history and the soul of this Tuscan wine area.
lcuni non sono ancora in commercio, ma i Bolgheri Superiore 2019 in uscita da gennaio 2022 ci hanno davvero conquistato. I volumi di produzione sono tornati a livelli più che accettabili, dopo la flessione delle due annate precedenti; la qualità riscontrata è quella delle annate migliori. Questo vale per il fuoriclasse Sassicaia, che ancora una volta eccelle da ogni punto di vista, ma vale in generale per tutti i campioni assaggiati. L’andamento climatico del 2019 è stato condizionato da un’estate decisamente calda, ma priva di stress idrico grazie alle piogge invernali e del mese di maggio; questo ha favorito la sanità e la maturazione dell’uva; i vini della denominazione di Castagneto Carducci del 2019 hanno un carattere fruttato e generoso. La maturità dei profumi e dei tannini è il fil rouge del millesimo, che si può definire come annata solare. Fa eccezione nella nostra degustazione il vino di Guado al Melo, di cui abbiamo assaggiato l’annata 2018, più fresca, ma comunque affascinante, soprattutto per la sua eleganza. Il carattere libertario del disciplinare nella scelta della composizione varietale non facilita l’individuazione di una chiave di lettura comune, ma sappiamo che valgono anche le differenze territoriali e riusciamo a distinguere stili e filosofie produttive. Sperimentazione e creatività fanno parte del DNA dei vini di Bolgheri; non accettare questa eterogeneità vorrebbe dire non comprendere la storia e l’anima di questo territorio del vino toscano.
