ANIMAL MANAGEMENT LEVEL 3 Working with animals is a rewarding and fulfilling career. By studying animal management, you will take an important step in gaining knowledge about animals; their biology, behaviour and welfare. You will also develop your practical animal husbandry skills, to become an efficient and impactful worker.

The Level 3 Animal Management course is a broad introduction to the exciting and interesting world of animal studies. The course gives students a wide base of knowledge on the subject of animals, covering their physiology, behaviour patterns and welfare requirements. The course also prepares students for working in the animal industries, by covering the principles of practical animal management such as their feeding, housing and training. Studying at Walford will give students the opportunity to work with our animal collection, which houses a wide variety of species including small mammals, exotic reptiles, bird of prey, and others. By completing this course, students will be knowledgeable, experienced and importantly; employable. After completion, Level 3 Animal Management students will be able to progress into working with domestic animals, perhaps in kennels and catteries, or working with exotic animals, such as in a zoological collection. Students will also be able to progress from this course into more specialised study at university.

Duration Two years

Course Content Topics you will cover include: • Small Animal Rehabilitation • Wildlife & Ecology Conservation • Animal Nursing • Principles of Biology • Business Management • Exotic Animal Management

Entry Requirements You must be 16 years of age and ideally have one of the following: • Level 2 in Animal Care • Four GCSE passes at grade 4 (grade C) or above (including maths and English) or a Merit grade or above in a BTEC Level 2 qualification and equivalent maths and English 70 www.nsc.ac.uk

• A mature student demonstrating commitment to the course

Progression Progression routes shown are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria. Study options may include: • Foundation/bachelor’s degrees in animal sciences (zoology, conservation, behaviour, biology) • Veterinary nursing qualifications (at university, or in practice) • Apprenticeships and higher apprenticeships in animal management Employment options may include: • Animal welfare assistant • Zoo keeper • Conservation practitioner • Veterinary nurse (subject to further qualification) • Animal groomer (subject to further qualification)

There are various bursaries available to support eligible students with course-related costs and you can find out more about these on page 14. Aged 16 –18 years There are no tuition or examination fees. Aged 19 or over (at the start of the course) Different fees apply depending on your individual circumstances and prior qualifications.
