EQUINE MANAGEMENT LEVEL 3 This course gives you the experience, knowledge and qualifications necessary for a wide range of responsible posts in the equine industry. If you are flexible, enjoy working with horses and wish to progress to a career at supervisory and management level, then this is the course for you!

A balance between practical and theory sessions, gives you a real insight into the everyday work within industry and here on the College yard. As well as this, there are duties where you become a member of the equine team and work with them to care for the horses on a daily basis, thus developing the practical skills needed to work in the equine industry. This programme covers many aspects of equestrianism with particular emphasis on science, horse husbandry and work experience. It is designed to equip students for success in employment and develops knowledge and understanding in practical skills at operational and supervisory level. You will acquire skills and knowledge to enable you to meet changing circumstances in the modern world. It is a vocational course equivalent to A Levels which will enable you to progress on to higher education. We also go on trips and visits as well as having in guest speakers to keep you up to date with industry. Work experience is built into the course to further enhance your employability skills. This qualification gives you the opportunity to study a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge that build upon the core skills of safe working practices.

Qualification City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical in Equine Management (Certificate/Diploma/ Extended 720/1080)

Duration Two years

Course Content Topics you will cover include: • Prepare & Present Horses • Equine Management • Exercising Horses • Equine Health and Welfare • Feeding & Nutrition • Horse Fitness

Entry Requirements • Be 16 years of age at the beginning of the course and have an interest in horses • 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above (including a science-based subject) or

successful completion of a Level 2 Equine qualification with a least a Merit grade • Have shown ability in riding and handling horses as measured by either BHS examinations NVQ level 2 or other equivalent examinations or experience • Mature entry is also available • Grade 4 in maths and English is required for entry on to the Extended Diploma

Progression Progression routes shown are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria. Study options may include: • Equine Studies Foundation Degree • BSc (Hons) Equine Science • Equine Sports Performance BSc (Hons) Degree Employment options may include: • Groom • Exercising Assistant • Equine Handler
