A Sense of Place Picasso’s art and life are celebrated through an innovative exhibition.

or anyone seeking to understand more about Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists of all time, a visit to France’s Musée national Picasso-Paris would be a natural place to start. Fortunately for Qatar, in a year that prevented international travel, the museum joined forces with Qatar Museums (QM) to bring 108 extraordinary artworks by Picasso from its collection to Doha’s Fire Station: Artist in Residence at the Garage Gallery. Sheikha Reem Al Thani, Director of Exhibitions at QM, said: “It is especially appropriate that we are presenting Picasso’s Studios at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence, where outstanding contemporary Qatari artists produce and show their work in Doha today.” Running from July 1 through to November 1, this landmark exhibition, titled Picasso’s Studios, formed part of the 2020 Qatar-France Year of Culture, a QM initiative dedicated to building bridges between the people and institutions of these two nations. Curated by Virginie Perdrisot-Cassan, Curator of Paintings (1921-1973), Sculptures and Ceramics at the Musée national Picasso-Paris, the exhibition focussed on the eight studios where Picasso worked during his life in France.
