xpectations ran high ahead of the recent release of the new Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5), having been seven years since the launch of the PlayStation 4. This wait was rewarded with the PS5 not only looking strikingly different but also feeling incredible to play. In terms of looks, the PS5 brandishes an undeniable presence with its larger, futuristic silhouette. The real action – and what everyone had been waiting for – is not on the outside but the innovations on the inside that take gaming to the next level. Among the improved experience is lightning-fast loading of games and the ability to switch quickly between them, thanks to an ultra-high-speed SSD onboard. The experience of playing is also more immersive with the DualSense controller featuring support for haptic feedback, meaning that as you play you can feel actions through the medium of touch. Adaptive triggers on two controller buttons also allow you to experience resistance – such as the feel of rough terrain as you drive

over it. This immersive feeling is enhanced by a new level of realism when playing games: rays of light, for example, are individually simulated in a way that creates true-to-life shadows and reflections. Great news for gaming fans is that the PlayStation 5 has backwards compatibility, meaning you can upgrade and play your back catalogue of disc or digital PS4 games on your PS5 console. There is also the choice of a PS5 Digital Edition, a version of the PS5 console with no disc drive that works by allowing you to sign into your PlayStation Network account and go to the PlayStation Store to buy and download games. Importantly, only original, unmodified PlayStations are covered by the PlayStation warranty. PlayStation fans should note that Modern Home – Fifty One East is the sole distributor for Qatar, and that official licensed products are available at Fnac and Modern Home.
