Capturing life’s precious moments
Contemplation by Boucheron seizes the intangible in an out-of-this-world collection. A falling raindrop, clouds scudding past, a feather in graceful flight… these are just a few of the momentary experiences that Boucheron has sought to capture in its new and daring high jewellery collection titled Contemplation. Maison Boucheron Creative Director Claire Choisne admits the nigh impossible task of its creation, saying “I wanted to capture what cannot be caught”. Among her many desires was “a piece of sky to wear around your neck”. To achieve just this, Boucheron searched for two years before finding the solution in a special substance used in space by NASA to gather stardust. It then enclosed it in a shell of rock crystal set with diamonds and suspended it from a diamondpaved rock crystal choker. This is one spectacular creation in a repertoire of 67 pieces, each with a fascinating story behind its incarnation. For many pieces, the inspiration is rooted in the Boucheron archives, such as the awardwinning Question Mark necklace first created by Frédéric Boucheron in the 1880s, which here appears in an extra-large version resplendent with Akoya pearls and a sprinkling of diamonds, or the Flèche du Temps theme, which traces its origins to 1873. Indeed, cherished Boucheron motifs permeate the pieces, but in the true tradition of the Maison are reinvented through stunning innovations in techniques and materials. With the collection’s themes taken from ethereal moments in the universe around us, this enhances the out-of-this-world impression, sparking awe and wonder and, as the title suggests, the impulse to take time out for contemplation.
