National Geographic Explorer through Day 18 Meals: 3B, 4L, 4D DAYS 6–10 I EAST GREENLAND/ QAQORTOQ Sail to Greenland and spend a day exploring the islands and fjords of the eastern coast. In Nanortalik, enjoy folk music and dance, take a walk in Greenland’s only natural forest, and see traditional longhouses and kayaks. Visit the impressive Viking settlement of Hvalsey. In Qaqortoq, learn about local life at the museum and sample Greenlandic food. Then visit the site of Erik the Red’s farm at Brattahlíð. Meals: 5B, 5L, 5D
DAYS 1–5 I U.S./REYKJAVÍK, ICELAND/ WESTFJORDS Fly overnight to Reykjavík. Take a walking tour of the old town and visit the National Museum. Board the ship and sail to the historic trading post of Flatey Island. On the Westfjords Peninsula, observe millions of seabirds at the Látrabjarg cliffs, and hike or sail along Arnafjörður to Dynjandi waterfall. Visit a family farm on Vigur Island. Then take a culinary tour or go biking or hiking in Ísafjörđur.
DAYS 11–19 I WESTERN GREENLAND Dock in the tiny capital of Nuuk and take a walking tour. At the National Museum, examine the well-preserved 15th-century Qilakitsoq mummies. Explore fjords and glaciers, stopping to hike and kayak. Visit the former whaling port of Sisimiut, and sail Disko Bay to the Ilulissat Icefjord for a cruise among icebergs. Learn about Inuit culture in Uummannaq. Disembark in Kangerlussuaq and fly by charter back to Iceland. Stop at the Blue Lagoon before your flight the next day.
