DAYS 8–11 I MALUKU ARCHIPELAGO/ RAJA AMPAT/WEST PAPUA Sail into the Maluku Archipelago, also known as the the Spice Islands. A traditional war canoe escorts us to Banda Neira, once the hub of the Dutch East India Company, for a visit to its 17th-century fortress. Spend two days snorkeling and diving amid the incredible marine biodiversity of Raja Ampat, and glide in Zodiacs and kayaks around these karst islands. On West Papua, examine ancient rock art, see World War II bunkers, and witness a traditional stick dance. Meals: 4B, 4L, 4D

DAYS 1–7 I U.S./BALI, INDONESIA/KOMODO/ FLORES Fly overnight to Bali and experience the rich culture of Ubud. Continue east to the islands of Satonda and Sumbawa to snorkel and learn about local customs. Search for Komodo dragons in Komodo National Park. DAYS 12–21 I ASMAT/PAPUA NEW GUINEA/ SOLOMON ISLANDS/BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA In the remote Asmat region, home to indigenous hunter-gatherers, attend a fascinating welcome ceremony and visit stilt villages. Sail through the Torres Strait and the Gulf of Papua, stopping to snorkel and explore islands we encounter. Learn the dramatic history of Papua New Guinea’s Samarai Island, then cross the Solomon Sea to Honiara.
