ÁVARP REKTORS HEAD MASTER'S ADDRESS
Verið velkomin í Háskóla Íslands. Kæru stúdentar, nýtt skólaár er að hefjast í Háskóla Íslands og ég býð ykkur öll hjartanlega velkomin á háskólasvæðið. Það er alltaf gleðilegt þegar nýtt skólaár hefst. Háskólasvæðið iðar af lífi og eftirvænting og spenna í loftinu. Síðustu misseri hafa verið afar óvenjuleg og krefjandi fyrir nemendur okkar og starfsfólk. Við höfum þurft að takast á við aðstæður sem voru okkur algjörlega ókunnugar og bregðast við áskorunum sem ekkert okkur var að fullu búið undir. Þessi erfiði tími, sem nú er vonandi að baki, kenndi okkur ýmsar mikilvægar lexíur. Til dæmis hversu mikilvægt það er að eiga sterkt og samheldið háskólasamfélag. Því jafnvel á tímum þegar byggingar háskólans voru lokaðar stóðum við saman og hjálpuðumst

Welcome to the University of Iceland. Dear students, a new academic year is beginning at the University of Iceland, and I warmly welcome you to the campus. It is always a pleasant time when a new academic year begins. The campus is alive and you can feel the excitement in the air. Recent semesters have been very unusual and challenging for our students and staff. We have had to deal with situations that we were completely unfamiliar with and responded to challenges that were not fully prepared for. This difficult time, which is now hopefully behind us, has taught us some impor tant lessons, including what is the value of having a strong and cohesive university community. Because even in times when university buildings were closed, we stood together and jointly worked on tackling the tasks and safeguarding the quality of teaching and research. The University of Iceland community is truly important for us. The last few months have been trying for our community. The pandemic reminded us how important it is to be able to be together on campus, including you students inter-acting with your teachers and fellow students.
