orn and raised on the south side of Houston, Texas, Leslie Phillips overcame challenging circumstances and received her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Prairie View A&M University, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Texas Southern University. After college, Leslie accumulated a strong background in sales, management, and leadership training while working for three major corporations focusing on Retail Management, Advertising, and Pharmaceuticals. That experience, coupled with her passionate interest in health, beauty & fitness topics – along with her innate entrepreneurial spirit, fueled her to step out on faith and open Obsidian Beauty Supply in 2011. Leslie’s decision to open Obsidian was additionally incited out of frustration that the industry, which is predominately owned and controlled by Koreans, has limited business opportunities for African Americans even though they are the chief financial contributors to it. Her primary mission for Obsidian is to serve the community by empowering and educating customers while simultaneously providing premium beauty products and exceptional service! Obsidian Beauty Supply stands apart from normal retail operations in that health, education, and philanthropy are major pillars of its business model. A born entrepreneur, Leslie has always been ambitious and hard working. Presently, she not only runs her own business but she has also established a successful career in corporate America and maintains a prominent position as a Territory Business Manager for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Leslie manages a territory with over 100 hospitals and markets the company’s Pain Therapeutics, Biologicals, Parasiticides and AntiInfectives product lines. Additionally, Leslie is the Vice President of the local Black Beauty Supply Association (BBSA) and has been an active member of the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals (HAULYP), the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), and the National Sales Network (NSN).
