I also consistently connect with local resident groups, non-profits, schools, PTAs, libraries, and other organizations to coordinate community events and fundraising opportunities. I have also served as organizer and fundraiser for large charitable events. Statement: As an Edgewood resident and mother of children growing up in this community, I have a vested interest in its successful and sustainable growth. Maintaining Edgewood’s rural character requires a responsible approach to mandated growth that balances the need for city services. There must be a continued focus on level of service, public safety, and the importance of park spaces. The success of our city also depends on community connections that welcome all residents. This is why I organized monthly movie nights and spearheaded monthly Coffee with Council events. I am also an outspoken advocate for citizen input opportunities and have helped coordinate town hall events (if you attended the development town hall, those were my kids’ Legos on the tables!). I regularly attend resident boards and commissions to gather information, additional perspectives, and seek citizen input. I actively support local events, organizations, schools, and businesses – and continually work to coordinate and connect local and regional resources. Elected officials should be a resource to their community – both inside of, as well as outside of, council meetings.
Education: Crater HS 1986, Central Point, OR. 2yrs College Central Texas College, University of Maryland (Far East Campus), Pierce College. Community Service: Underwater Search and Rescue Volunteers – Kitsap County, Diver - 9yrs, Team President – 6yrs. Statement: After almost 9 years and returning to the PNW, I exited the Army in 1995. Commuting from Spanaway to work in Federal Way was a chore, so my wife and our family moved to Edgewood in 2003. We wanted to raise our children in a similar atmosphere as we both had growing up – a small town that was mostly rural. Over the years small changes to the town’s structure have mostly kept that rural feeling in place, but that has not necessarily been the best direction for the city’s residents. Simply put, Edgewood has become a drive thru town. People speed up and down Meridian, with little to drawn them in, other than housing. The multiple apartments (and another one is coming soon) advertise “access to a range of shopping and dining”, “… highly coveted dining, shopping, schools and recreation.” And, “Near shopping and business district. Countless dining options.” Most of that is in other nearby cities, not Edgewood. We need to address the lack of business’s that would provide needed services to our residents, in what is supposed to be our “city core”. Business growth can be managed responsibly and reasonably, while protecting the rural area’s off Meridian.
I would be honored to have the opportunity to continue working alongside, and on behalf of, the residents of this beautiful city.
