I remember with clarity how I was shocked when Enrique Barón introduced Sofíato me. Her voice, her beauty and her fragility were transmitting at the same time an exceptional vitality. Her first words highlighted already a sensitive knowledge and a full independent artistic personality.
Recuerdo nítidamente cuanto me impresionó Sofia cuando Enrique Barón me la presentó. Su voz, su belleza y su fragilidad transmitían al mismo tiempo una vitalidad fuera de lo común.Ya desde sus primeras palabras ponía de relieve un conocimiento sensible y una personalidad artística plena de independencia.
My personal relationship with her was less frequent than desirable but it was ennobled by Enrique telling about her activity and especially through the catalogues and pictures of her paintings. The relationship weaved through the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation has allowed me to value and appreciate the strength , le purpose and the vitality of her work as an exercise that compelled to reflect how she composed her apparent fragility with a categorical ” élan”. This is my image of Sofía. Fragility, beauty and categorical “élan”. Paris , on the occasion of the big exhibition of Dalí in the Georges Pompidou Center and our stay in the Hotel Meurice, made possible to talk about our experiences, knowledge and worries, and also a little about our lives. I could then value the wealth of culture, fortitude and intellectual projection that her character, with her velvet voice, slow and unrepeatable, transmitted. She made it with strength and with dignity, but with a modesty that did not match with her relevance.

Mi relación personal fue menos asidua de lo deseable pero la ennoblecía Enrique con el relato de su actividad y especialmente con los catálogos y las fotografías de sus pinturas.La relación que se ha ido tejiendo a través de la Fundación Gala-Salvador Dalí me ha permitido valorar y apreciar la fuerza, la intención y la vitalidad de su obra como un ejercicio que obligaba a reflexionar sobre como componía su fragilidad aparente con un “élan” categórico.Esta es mi imagen de Sofía. Fragilidad, belleza y “élan” categórico Fue París, con ocasión de la gran exposición de Dalí en el Centre Georges Pompidou, y nuestra estancia en el Meurice, lo que posibilitó que tuviéramos ocasión de contarnos vivencias, conocimientos e inquietudes, y también un poco de nuestras vidas. Fue entonces cuando pude valorar el caudal de cultura, fortaleza y proyección intelectual que aquella personalidad,de voz aterciopelada, pausada e irrepetible, transmitía. Lo hacía con fuerza y con dignidad, pero con una modestia que no se correspondía con su relevancia.
Jordi Mercader Miró es un ingeniero español. Fue presidente de Bazán, Agbar y del Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI), entre otros. Actualmente preside la Fundación Gala-Salvador Dalí.
