PALETA
We Were Not “I’m sure but at least I’ll see them once more.”
Work hard. Walk home. I’m sick of it all. Should I sleep? Should I not? It’ll be a nightmare I’m sure but at least I’ll see them once more. Rata-ta-ta-ta-tat. Echoes ripping through our silence. My father fell. I went limp. My mother screamed soundlessly or was I deafened by my own? I didn’t know we were out running until I fell to my face. She grabbed me by the arm to stand me up then her blood sprayed to my eyes. I awoke screaming. My heart was pounding cold. We were not rebels but for what they did being one may not be so wrong.
