Abstract This paper is a theoretical literature review. The purpose of this study is to describe the impact of urinary incontinence on the quality of life of women and describe the according nursing interventions. Electronic databases such as Google, Google Books, Google Scholar and EBSCOhost where used to search for necessary sources. Out of the 51 sources that were used to compose this paper, 48 were scientific articles. All sources were published in English between the years 2005 to 2016. Urinary incontinence has a negative effect on the quality of life of women. While rarely a lifethreatening condition, incontinence can seriously influence the psychological and social well-being of the affected individuals. A detailed patient history has the main role in discovering urinary incontinence and determining its type. Healthcare workers have to be active in inquiring women about bladder-related symptoms. Primary treatment involves lifestyle changes, bladder training and pelvic floor muscle training.
