Blacksmithing & Metalworking Level 3 This course is run by the longest established blacksmithing training college in the country, with staff dedicated to providing training for those who wish to work in the various areas of forged iron, ranging from traditional to contemporary design work. This course will give you an excellent grounding for progression either into industry or onto a relevant universitylevel course. Working in one of the largest blacksmith training facilities in Europe, you will manufacture most of the hand tools required for project work and learn about the properties of materials which blacksmiths use, including those metals less common in blacksmithing such as stainless steel, copper and wrought iron. You’ll be taught by some of the most well-respected professional blacksmiths in the industry worldwide. A blacksmith must have a good eye for form, solid hand/eye coordination and the ability to plan work and estimate costs effectively. You will be required to develop your breadth and expertise in the technical areas of forge work, welding and fabrication. After an initial period of technical development, students will be expected to research, design, develop and make complex pieces in both contemporary and traditional styles.
