Engineering Level 3 Broaden your horizons for careers and degree-level study in computer aided manufacturing, product design, aerospace, electronics, electrical engineering, or the automotive industry. You will be applying your cognitive problem solving skills to projects, challenges and assignments that are based on real workplace situations, activities and demands. Equivalent to three A Levels, this qualification has been designed to allow students to progress to university as well as straight into the industry. Upon successful completion, you may decide to apply for an HNC/D or degree course in various disciplines, including mechanical engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, design, automotive or electronic engineering. Our contemporary engineering facilities have the latest industry-standard equipment including a Computer Aided Design (CAD) suite, engineering workshop (including a CNC mill and lathe), extensive robotics and pneumatics equipment. This offers an excellent learning environment for supported, hands-on training as well as thorough academic study. Qualification BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Duration Two years Course Content A selection of unit titles is shown below: • Machining Techniques • Mechanical, Engineering & Electrical Science • Mathematics • Computer Aided Design (CAD) • Microcontroller Systems in Engineering • Inspection Technology • Programmable Logic Controllers • Properties & Application of Engineering Materials • Project • Programmable Logic Controllers • Electrical/Electronics • Mechanical Principles Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects, exams and practical work. All full-time students will be required to study maths and English at the appropriate level. Please see page 6 for more details. 52

Entry Requirements • Five GCSEs at grades 4 or above (grade C or above) including maths, English and physics (or equivalent technical subject), or the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate/ Diploma (Merit grade) in a relevant area • Successful interview and initial assessment, including diagnostic tests • You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this subject area Progression Progression routes shown are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria. Study options may include: • HNC in Engineering at HLC • Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship • Engineering Degree Employment options may include: • Engineering Project Manager • Engineering Design and Manufacture • Mechanical Engineer • Electronics/Telecommunications Engineer You may also like... • Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship • Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation • Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Motor Vehicle

We also offer the following apprenticeships as an alternative to full-time study: • Manufacturing Engineering, Level 3 • Engineering Maintenance, Level 3 • Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Level 3 • Engineering Design, Level 3 Course Content You will gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to your chosen apprenticeship and job role in the workplace, including: • Engineering Maths & Science • Computer Aided Design • Manual & CNC Machining • Electronics, Automation & Control • Engineering Materials • Engineering Maintenance • Manufacturing Processes Duration and Attendance You will spend most of your time in the workplace, employed as an apprentice, and you will be released by your employer to attend college for training two days a week, in year one, and one day a week in years two and three. It will take around 36-48 months to complete the Level 3 Apprenticeship.
