Furniture Making Level 2 A highly-skilled and specialist timber craft using design processes, technical drawings and workshop geometry.
You will learn the skills to make well designed and beautifully executed furniture in the College’s purpose built workshop. The focus of the Level 2 qualification is to expertly guide you through the making process, using both traditional and modern methods. These will include the use of machinery and power tools, as well as hand-based techniques. Practical knowledge will be supported by theory based sessions and you will gain an insight into the furniture making industry. Your studies will also include visits to local furniture making workshops, museums and specialist exhibitions. Student progress is closely monitored and appraised, ensuring that you have the opportunity to achieve your full potential. Through your practical learning experiences and with knowledgeable, expert tutors you will have a firm footing to progress to further study and employment in this vibrant trade. There is a demand for well-qualified people in the furniture industry and successful students have gone into a wide range of roles including boat builders/fitters, restoration specialists and self-employed designers to name but a few.
Assessment is continuous, with practical projects and a design portfolio.

Entry Requirements • Four GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above (to include maths and English) or successful completion of a suitable and relevant Level 1 qualification (e.g. Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery) • Successful interview and initial assessment in literacy and numeracy • Applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the chosen subject area
