Agriculture Level 2 Develop your practical farming skills on the College’s working organic farm, utilising both traditional and modern farming methods.
You will gain practical experience of tractor fieldwork, estate skills and a range of stock tasks, as well as being given an opportunity to visit relevant shows and exhibitions. You can gain certification in one of the following certificates of competence: telehandler, ATV, shearing or tractor driving. You will experience work in a range of agricultural areas through practical sessions on the College farm. This will be underpinned by your theoretical classroom work and backed up with relevant work experience in the industry. With a strong emphasis on combining traditional skills with modern technology and legislation, this course is ideal if you are working towards employment in the agricultural sector. Successful completion at Merit grade or above will allow you to progress to a Level 3 Extended Diploma or move into employment with an apprenticeship (entry requirements apply). Qualification Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture
Entry Requirements • Four GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above (to include maths and English) or successful completion of a suitable and relevant Level 1 qualification at Distinction grade • Successful interview and initial assessment in literacy and numeracy • Applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the chosen subject area Progression Progression routes shown are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria. We also offer the following apprenticeships as an alternative to full-time study: • Agriculture, Level 2 • Agriculture, Level 3 Course Content As an employed apprentice you will gain practical skills in the workplace along with developing knowledge and skills relevant to your chosen sector, including: • Health & Safety • Managing the Welfare of Animals • Preparing Feed & Water for Livestock • Preparing Outdoor Sites for Livestock • Preparing & Operating a Tractor • Carrying out Harvesting Operations • Planting Crops Duration and Attendance You will spend most of your time in the workplace employed as an apprentice. There will be knowledge workshops planned within your course. You will be expected to attend functional skills classes in English and Maths unless you already have prior achievement at grade 4. Duration is 12-24 months depending on the level of study and will usually require attendance in college for 1 day per week.

Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects and practical work. It also includes 150 hours of work experience over the duration of the course. All full-time students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level. Please see page 6 for more details. 96
